The Ghana Health Service (GHS) in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the German government, has renewed public sensitisation on the COVID-19 vaccination.
This is part of efforts to ensure mass vaccination ahead of the Christmas festivities to curb any enormous spread of the virus.
The 5th round of the Covid-19 vaccination exercise in all 43 districts of the Ashanti region has a target of vaccinating an estimated 165,931 people from December 14 to 18.
The team from the GHS and UNICEF paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Domeabra Traditional Area in the Asante Akyem North District to support the vaccination exercise.
The Chief, Baffour Owusu Bediako, called on the public to get involved in the exercise as the virus remains a threat to the country, particularly as the Christmas festivity approaches.
“We have realised that some people have not taken the second jab yet. I’m pleading with the public not to take the COVID vaccination for granted,” he said.
The Chief emphasised the role of traditional leaders in the advocacy for people to stay safe and adhere to the precautionary measures recommended by the health directorate and its partners during the peak of the pandemic.
“As traditional leaders we have also done our best to make sure people take the jab. Our greatest threat to global security right now is COVID infection and we need everyone to get involved in the ongoing vaccination,” he noted.
The public sensitisation includes visits to several health facilities as well as general public engagements.
