Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey has debunked a report by the Police that the family of Gospel musician, Perpetual Didier, granted permission for an autopsy to be conducted on the deceased- Shadrach Arloo.

On February 7, the Ga East Municipal Pathologist disclosed the cause of death of Shadrach Arloo as asphyxiation and obstruction of airway by a foreign body.

The pathologist, Dr. Rosana Polincio Segborwortso, had retrieved from the throat of the deceased, eight zipped bags containing dry leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs tied in a piece of black polythene.

Portions of the statement read that the family had agreed for the Police to conduct the post-mortem.

However, the legislator said the family of the deceased had asked the Police to wait until their family doctor was present before the autopsy process began.

“Few days before the autopsy, the pathologist explained the procedure and how the whole thing will be done, adding that he was going to do the autopsy. That was when the family was very uncomfortable. So they suggested that they would rather have their own medical doctor,” the MP, Dorcas Toffey said on JoyNews Desk on Wednesday.

Shadrach Arloo, 32, died at the West Hills Mall following an altercation with private security guards and a Police officer who attempted to search his bag.

The MP noted that the Police report is inconsistent, because they said the deceased swallowed a substance yet they handcuffed him, instead of seeking medical attention.

“The person you are claiming has something in his throat who could not do anything, you still handcuffed him, just as it happened in the case of George Floyd in the US. You still knelt down and did not do anything about it. You watched this guy die and you are saying you don’t have any hand in his killing?,” she lamented.

The MP added that the family had asked the Police to postpone the post-mortem because their doctor was unavailable, but the Police said their specialist had to travel.

“I mean if she was travelling, what was the urgency? What was the rush? They should have waited until the family was okay,” she said.

Madam Toffey called on the IGP to bring to book, the officers who are associated with Shadrach Arloo's death.

“I am still asking the IGP to bring those officers that were there on that day to book, because they are equally responsible due to their unprofessionalism which contributed to the death of the man,” she said.
