Flagbearer aspirant for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Duffour appears committed to employing collectivism in the running of the country if elected as President.
For him, leadership that is centred on one individual’s personal motives does not usually augur well for any nation.
The former Finance Minister was speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Thursday, March 16, 2023.
This came up during the discussions surrounding his plans for the country as he seeks to lead the opposition party into the 2024 general election.
He revealed that completing abandoned projects was key in his itinerary as he believes neglecting projects that precede one’s tenure is a sign of self-centredness.
“We will get a special auditor that will help identify all the abandoned projects and then we will start working on them because a lot of money has been pushed into these projects.”
“As a leader, you don’t have to abandon past and uncompleted projects to focus on your new projects, that’s not how it’s done, you continue the old ones, the spirit of self-centeredness is what is worrying us,” he indicated.
According to Dr Duffour, many of these projects were massively invested, hence if a particular government could not finish them, he sees no reason to start his personal ones.
“We should work as a team, management style that is self-centered is always not a good one, I’ve come into power, then I abandon all old projects to start mine, the money that you’ll use to fund your project is not even yours, it’s for government and the country,” he stated.
The other three contestants are: former President, John Dramani Mahama, former Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bonsu, and a businessman from the Weija-Gbawe Constituency, Ernest Kwaku Kobeah.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) officially closed nominations for the flag bearer election on Friday, February 24, 2023.
