The International Monetary Fund Resident Representative to Ghana, Dr. Leandro Medina, says his outfit will be supporting the government to improve transparency and governance in the course of Ghana’s IMF programme.
According to him, the government has already commenced steps to address governance and transparency issues, and will be receiving the full support of the IMF in that regard.
“In terms of governance and transparency, we really take it seriously, there is a lot in the staff report, in the programme document. You will see there are different dimensions that we’ll look into and we really support the effort of authorities again trying to make steps to address governance issues and to increase transparency,” he said on JoyNews’ PM Express Business Edition.
Highlighting two of the steps taken to address governance issues and increase transparency, Dr. Medina said government has requested a corruption assessment of which the results will be added to the country’s anti-corruption action plan.
“The Ghanaian authorities have taking quite some steps to deal with the governance issue and to improve transparency… The authorities have requested the IMF technical assistance to conduct governance corruption diagnostic assessment which will be done with the support of the IMF and the result will be an input for the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan, NACAP and this is a very important dimension of improvement in governance by the authorities,” he said.
He also added that the government as part of increasing transparency published the audit report on the Covid-19 expenditure.
“The second example which is on transparency is the publication of a detailed audit report on the emergency spending on Covid-19. This has been published since January. These are just a few measures that have been taken and will be taken as programme goes along into the dimension of improving governance and increasing transparency,” he said.
