The woman who was stripped naked and abused in a community in the Upper East Region has revealed that aside from her horrible experience, four other girls were also molested and raped by the same people who assaulted her.
The 26-year-old victim, [Name withheld] who lives in the Kopela community said she was returning from the market with four other girls but they had to pass through the bush to get to their destination.
According to her, they met these men on their way who molested her and dragged the four others into the bush.
She said the four girls were raped. According to her, one of the girls was raped by five young men.
Reports have it that the young girl raped by five men has also been found, and has been given a form by the police to go to the Zebilla District hospital for checkup and treatment.
The main victim whose molestation was captured on video reportedly fled the community after the incident, and went to Zebilla where she subsequently fled with her family to a community in the West Mamprusi Municipality. She was found on Tuesday dawn by the police.
Following widespread public condemnation of the incident, the IGP engaged leadership of the community to assure them of enhanced security as investigations continue.
President of the National Council of Fulani Chiefs, Idrissah Mohammed Bingle has been in meetings with the IGP on this matter.
He said to prevent further retaliation, they have been speaking with their people [Fulanis] to be patient.
“We have done our best to keep heads cool and that’s what we’re continuing to do, and that’s what we’ve been doing ever since,” he said.
Four suspects, who have been arrested are currently in Police custody assisting the investigation, while efforts continue to arrest other accomplices to face justice.
In the video, some men were seen stripping a woman naked while others opened her legs wide and took pictures of her private part.
There are reports suggesting the attack on the woman was to avenge the killing of a resident by suspected nomadic herdsmen at Binaba in the Upper East Region.
