The Member of Parliament for Wa Central, Dr. Rashid Pelpuo is not satisfied with how the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) approached the leaked report authored by the former Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.

Dr. Pelpuo is calling for further arrests and investigations into the report since the document named some government officials as being involved in illegal mining activities in the country.

In the wake of the revelations made in the report, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng was arrested upon honouring an invitation to aid in the investigation.

The heart surgeon was subsequently granted a GH₵2 million bail.

But the Wa Central MP argues that the chairman cannot be singled out by the Special Prosecutor.

He added that although the Minority Caucus might be happy with the ongoing investigation, there is a need for more input.

“We are not against the fact that investigations are going on. That’s not our concern. We want more investigations to go on, we want more arrests to happen. We want further input into it by subjecting it to public investigation. That’s what we’re looking for. We are calling for further action.

“Arresting Frimpong-Boateng alone is not satisfying us,” he said on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday.

Dr. Pelpuo wants the big names revealed in the report to be “brought to the table and questioned before the public.”

This, he said would serve as a deterrent to other officials who are also suspected to be involved in illegal mining activities but have not been mentioned in the report.

The politician is proposing that a by-partisan public enquiry involving key upright individuals would be set up to probe the report by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng.

Meanwhile, Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, says quite a number of individuals revealed in the report have appeared at the OSP upon summon by his outfit whereas others have volunteered themselves.

According to him, although the public consecrates some individuals and deem them untouchable, the OSP does not consider anybody a saint because it is the conscience of the nation.

He emphasised that everyone is equal before the law and therefore would be treated as such, stating that his outfit will go after any person suspected to be involved in corruption and corruption-related activities.
