A warning has been issued to educational institutions and media firms to refrain from promoting LGBTQ activities in their operations.
According to the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, a spokesperson of sponsors of the Promotion of Proper Sexual Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill currently before Parliament, some schools in the country have begun introducing elements of LGBT in their curriculum.
He cautioned that the appropriate sanctions will be meted out to such institutions, as their operations are in contradiction of the dictates of the laws of the country.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament after the conclusion of debate on the Anti-Gay bill by Parliament on Wednesday, July 5, he said “There are schools in Ghana that are beginning to introduce elements of LGBTQ and CSE (Comprehensive Sexuality Education) in their operations already.
“They may claim to be foreign schools, but no school can operate in Ghana outside of the remit of the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service. And so, those schools should take notice that the Ministry will be duly apprised of their activities, and sanctions will apply accordingly,” the legislator emphasised.
Adding to the warning, MP for Assin Kruwa, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour stated that any media house that will give out their platform for LGBT advocacy and its related activities will not be tolerated.
Mr Fordjour explained that LGBT and its related activities are “abhorred,” and “frowned upon” in the country.
He therefore urged the media to support the sponsors of the bill to enable them [sponsors] achieve their goal of passing the legislation.
