The National Peace Council (NPC) has begun engagements with the country's security agencies and political heads to address the deteriorating peace in the country.
Speaking on Joy News' 'The Pulse', the Board Chairman, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi indicated that the meetings have become necessary after the country slipped two places on the Global Peace Index.
The report by the Institute of Economics and Peace also highlighted the economic loss to the country to the tune of over $10 billion.
As disturbing as it may sound, Rev. Dr. Adu Gyamfi says efforts are being made to ensure the peace of the nation is not derailed.
“From our perspective as a Council, there must continually be public education. We’ve just ended a dialogue between the political parties and the Police Service. We did one earlier with the whole security service in February and we did a follow up 2 days ago.”
“We keep reviewing all these things and keep on educating ourselves and bringing ourselves on the page so that everyone understands where we are, what we ought to do and how we have to handle the country to make the country as peaceful as it ought to be,” he said.
The Board Chairman cautioned citizens to be very mindful of the things they post on social media as they may send wrong impression to the evaluators outside who may also be reading those posts.
“There’s a certain perception out there because people are writing all kinds of things on social media.”
“So these perceptions are also received by these evaluators who are outside the country, they’re also reading from the internet and getting news from all those places.”
“So we have to be very careful and educate our public, let’s look at the interest of our country,” Rev. Adu Gyamfi advised.
