The Speaker of Parliament is disturbed by the outcry that emanates from the public whenever the matter of legislators' salary increments come up.
According to Alban Bagbin, legislators bear a great number of responsibilities in the various constituencies and should be well remunerated.

Speaking at a public forum in Takoradi in the Western Region, the Speaker said MPs deserve better.
“Whatever is given to the one you struggled to elect, you are opposed to it. Even though every day you knock at his door to request money to pay school fees and hospital bills, donate to churches, festivals and funerals, you hate to hear that his salary is being increased, there must be a problem,” he said.
Over the years, MPs have been pushing for an increase in their salaries, asserting that they have not had their salaries assessed, unlike public sector workers.
