Spraying machines are crucial for effective farming however, it is labour intensive, particularly for the elderly.
Though there are electric-powered spraying versions on the market, they are imported, heavy, and expensive.
Good news is that students of the Sunyani Technical University, Theresah Biya and Ali Farida have come with a triple-power spraying machines which is locally made, affordable and easy to use.
The container which is made from plastic weighs almost 3 times less than the imported ones.
Again it’s powered by solar, rechargeable battery and odry batteries, characteristics the imported ones can only dream of.
The developers spoke with JoyNews’ Kwasi Debrah on August 17, 2023 for Tech Thursday.
“You can connect with the solar panel here and it will work, if you don’t want to use the solar panel, you can use the rechargeable batteries, that one too will work, as well as the dry cell batteries,” Theresah Biya said.
“Even though there is water inside, I can still lift it, it’s not heavy, and the belts are also tough, it’s not like the one on the market with a tiny belt that causes shoulder pains when put at the back.”
“This one is having the same capacity as the already existing one on the market but the difference is, this one is lighter and that is because this one is made up of plastic and the weight is 1.5 kg whilst the already existing one on the market is 4kg.”
“This one uses lithium-ion battery that makes it very less in weight while the one on the market uses lead-acid battery which makes it very heavier,” Ali Farida also explained.
