Jollof rice as a dish has gained prominence mainly in West Africa and other countries across the world over the past decade and counting.
The excitement and publicity about this delicacy got heightened the more, after the commencement of the social media banter between Ghana and Nigeria over who prepares the best jollof.
In the wake of the craze, 22nd August was adopted by the teeming African youth across the world as ‘World Jollof Day’
As part of activities to mark this year’s World Jollof Day celebration, leading culinary brand ONGA has organised the its annual party-themed cooking contest ‘ONGA Jollof Battle’
Themed the ‘’Online Influencers edition’, the event featured six content creators showcasing their culinary skills as they battle for the Jollof supremacy in the sizzling hot ONGA kitchen.
Addressing the media, Head of Corporate Communication and PR at Promasidor Ghana, Gideon Kudor, indicated that the event reinforces ONGA’s position as the leading food seasoning on the market which provides unique brand experience to patrons and consumers whilst delivering in the pot with great taste and aroma.
He added that “the preparation of jollof is incomplete without the taste of ONGA and ONGA Jollof competition is here to stay”
Winning packages for the battle included ¢15,000 for the ultimate winner in the addition to a brand ambassadorial deal 6 months, 10,000 cedis cash prize for the 2nd position and finally 5,000 cash prizes for the 3rd position
After a fierce battle for culinary supremacy among influencers, Food blogger and Dentist Dr. Ellen Akosua Kyei Baffour emerged winner and took home the ultimate prize of 15,000 Ghana cedi with products and souvenirs from Onga.

Ellen Kyei Baffour couldn’t hide her excitement saying, “I feel very proud because I have worked for this, when I was called to participate in the contest I tried cooking four times, making chicken jollof, beef jollof, goat meat jollof and it didn’t meet my expectation so I went the chunks. Everything about ONGA is super”.
The event was packed with a series of exciting activities, as well as electrifying dance performances and musical performances, exciting games among others
Participants also took the opportunity to share their delight in the event and called for more such activities from the brand.
Onga Jollof Battle is an annual party-themed cooking contest organised by the brand to mark the celebration of World Jollof Day.
