Goalkeeper, Joseph Wollacott, will miss Ghana’s final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Central African Republic because of a thigh injury.
The Black Stars team doctor said the Hibernian man is expected to be out for about eight weeks.
Wollacot sustained the injury during his debut against Inter d'Escaldes in the Europa Conference League qualifiers at the start of August.
Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton, named his squad for the Central African Republic game without the 26-year-old.
According to a GFA statement, Black Stars team doctor, Prince Pambo said, “Joseph has a thigh (quadriceps) injury mid-August during training. He is likely to be out for 8-weeks from date of the injury”.
Ghana will host the Central Africa Republic in their final Group E game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
The Black Stars need a point from the game to book qualification for the tournament to be held in Ivory Coast next January.
