The Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has refuted claims of having daily contact with former President John Mahama.
This denial comes after Commissioner of Police, COP Alex Mensah alleged before the parliamentary ad hoc committee investigating the controversial conversation involving some senior police officers and a politician to remove the IGP, Dr Akuffo Dampare from office, that the latter is always in contact with Mr Mahama.
According to COP Alex Mensah, he knew about this based on his intelligence.

“Yes, I said it,” he affirmed after a portion of the transcribed audio tape was read to him on Friday, September 1.
“Mr Chair, my intelligence shows that he does it,” he maintained after the Vice Chair of the committee, James Agalga put it to him that he had no information and the allegation was based on a figment of his imagination.
Vice Chair: So the IGP is always talking to former President Mahama? You know that for a fact?
COP Alex Mensah: That is from my intelligence.
He, however, failed to share the intelligence with the committee.
IGP Dampare, appearing before the ad hoc committee on Tuesday to respond to some allegations levelled against him, said he is a professional police officer and therefore does not engage in politics.
According to him, neither he nor Mr. Mahama pays each other a visit.
“Honourable chair, that is incorrect, that is another set of allegations just as it is to make it look like I am a policeman who is doing politics.
“I am a professional police officer and I don’t do such things so it is falsehood. Unless, maybe they have something to prove that,” he said.
He urged the officer who peddled the falsehood to stop it, adding that “they can use any other means to get any other thing that they want but not lying about me in a serial manner.”
Asked whether there is anything wrong with an IGP being in talks with the opposition leader, the IGP replied: “The position of IGP by extension, every police officer is to serve the good people of this country by which former president is one of those and there is nothing wrong with that.
“But there is a distinction between something that has happened and something that has not happened and people want to create it in order to make their good look good because they know such information sells and that is shameful.”
