The Rotary Club of Ho together with 24 other Rotary Clubs, 11 Rotaract Clubs, and 5 Lions Clubs from Ghana, Togo, and Nigeria have organized a free health screening for the people of Adaklu in the Adaklu District of the Volta Region.
The exercise saw over 2000 residents screened for eye, dental, ear, and nose conditions, throat and breast cancer, hepatitis B, diabetes, body mass, and high blood pressure.
50 pints of blood were also raised during the exercise to fortify blood banks in the region.
Healthcare practitioners from the Ketu South Municipal Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, and the Adaklu District Health Directorate were at the forefront to deliver services to the beneficiaries.
The Rotary Club of Ho's commitment to community welfare was evident as they extended their services beyond health screenings.
Approximately 450 beneficiaries had their National Health Insurance Scheme cards renewed and 155 of them registered onto the scheme for free.
This was to help them access basic healthcare services in the future.
The President of the Rotary Club of Ho, Dr Alphonse Makafui Dzakpasu, said the exercise proved to be a significant one for the residents of Adaklu and its surrounding communities, as many residents cannot afford or access such comprehensive healthcare services.
He said the initiative focused on a wide range of medical concerns to demonstrate the club's dedication to ensuring the well-being of the under privileged.
“Our club is deeply committed to serving our community, and organizing this free health screening aligns perfectly with our mission. We aim to make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve, and events like these allow us to do just that”, he said.
The exercise did not only provide health care and information to those in need but also strengthened the sense of solidarity among the residents.
