CalBank’s 2022/23 National Service Persons have refurbished and handed over a three-unit classroom block to the Bogyawe-Ankaase JHS in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The dilapidated school structure has not been conducive to teaching and learning for many years.

The renovation, which included the head teacher’s office, therefore, comes as a relief to the community.

It forms part of an annual project by service persons at CalBank with funding from the monthly allowances of the young graduates, as well as sponsorship and contributions from staff and the bank at large.

The service persons raised Gh70,000 for the project, which included plastering and painting, installation of teaching and learning materials, provision of tables and chairs, fixing of the roof, ceilings, doors, windows and electrical systems.

President of the 2022/23 batch of NSP at CalBank, Banahene Owusu, says the school was selected based on its peculiar needs after years of neglect.
He said his colleagues had no reason to complain in reaching out to do their best for the pupils of the school.
“Change is something you cannot unilaterally achieve, so this is a call to all relevant stakeholders to come on board. There are a lot of NGOs and corporate institutions who can adopt this strategy to help,” he said.

Head of Human Resources at CalBank, Ebow Nyamekye, expressed satisfaction with the dedication and efforts put up by the service personnel in undertaking the activity as a corporate social responsibility.

The bank is hopeful the school’s administrators will ensure effective maintenance of the facility.

According to the queen mother of Ankaase, Nana Yaa Pokuaa, the school was constructed by community members but has seen no renovation since it was built.
She joined the Headteacher at the school, Emmanuel Benko, to appreciate the gesture by CalBank’s national service persons for their immense support towards uplifting the face of education in the community.
