Economist Professor John Gatsi, based at the University of Cape Coast, has emphasised the importance of prioritising revenue mobilisation in the upcoming 2024 budget.
He argues that focusing on revenue generation is essential for achieving the desired economic growth and improving the well-being of the Ghanaian people.
In an interview with Citi FM on Tuesday, November 14, Prof. Gatsi suggested that the government should create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
“We should ensure that we maximize revenue mobilization, realign expenditure, and focus on things that will generate the growth the country needs to anchor in all fiscal indicators so that we will see our way clear.”
Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is set to present the 2024 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Wednesday, November 15.
Ahead of the presentation, MP Alhassan Suhuyini, representing Tamale North Constituency, stated that the Minority in Parliament would not support any imposition of additional taxes on Ghanaians.
