Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, has revealed that his official bungalow was almost sold off to a private developer.
Speaking at the Speaker’s Breakfast Forum held this morning at Alisa Hotel, Accra, he stated that the property had been given away to a private developer without his prior notice.
Refraining from naming the private developer or who had made the transfer, he said the property would have been re-registered to the private developers had the Lands Commission not identified the building.
“Many of you don’t know that even the residence of the speaker was almost sold to private sector. Actually it was given out, it is when they went to register that the Lands Commission identified that that is the residence of the speaker. Luckily I was inside so it was safe,” he said.
At the same event, he declared that Ghana’s Parliament will not kowtow to the whims and caprices of the International Monetary Fund.
According to him, the Bretton-Woods Institution had directed that Parliament pass the Affirmative Action bill through a certificate of urgency.
But Alban Bagbin said the bill is too important to be rushed through Parliament and has warned the IMF against interfering in the legislature’s business.
