Acting Director of Communications of the Movement for Change, Courage Nobi has expressed excitement about the four individuals expelled from the fold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He emphasised that the sacking of former General Secretary; Nana Ohene Ntow; former Adentan MP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa; former Madina MP, Boniface Saddique; and Hopeson Adorye from the NPP increased their chances of joining the movement.
According to him, the ruling party’s action was a panic reaction over the threat the Movement for Change, represented by the butterfly could pose to the elephant in the 2024 general elections.
“For us at Movement for Change, we are very excited about it. The four personalities are senior political figures in their own right, their voices have a strong appeal across the country. I suspect that is partly why the party is panicking about their declaration of support for the Hon Alan Kyerematen,” he said.
He made these comments on the back of the NPP’s enforcement of its constitutional provisions on forfeiture of membership resulting form the open endorsement by members of election candidates other than the party's.
The four are said to be rooting for the candidacy of Alan Kyerematen, an independent presidential aspirant who until his recent resignation from the NPP, was a stalwart of the party.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the NPP's flagbearer.
On the back of this, Mr Nobi explained that the NPP had noticed the applause the ‘afafranto’ had received at the burial of the former first lady, Theresa Kufuor on Saturday and was therefore taking precautionary measures.
“From Saturday’s funeral, the party has panicked. The momentum and the excitement around the movement, and so forth, that level of impact, the movement is very glad to welcome these four colossuses of political figures in Ghana,” he added.
Again, he said these stalwarts were an asset to the Movement for Change, adding that they would only "strengthen our rank as a movement."
