President Akufo-Addo has appointed Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare as the new Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).
This follows the retirement of Pamela Djamson-Tettey from the position after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.
Madam Djamson Tettey took over on February 18, 2022 after Mr Yaw Kwakwa submitted his resignation as the MD of GACL effective close of day, February 17, 2022.
She was the third woman to lead the state-owned company that has exclusive responsibility for developing, maintaining, planning and managing airports in Ghana.
Announcing the retirement and subsequent appointment in a letter addressed to the Board Chairman of the GACL dated December 21, 2023, the Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah said the appointment is in accordance with the Company’s Act, 2019 (Act 992).
“As the Managing Director (Madam Pamela Djamson-Tettey) retires on 23rd December 2023, H.E. the President has nominated Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare for appointment as the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) with effect from 24th December 2023.”
“You are requested to kindly take necessary steps to give effect to the above decision, in accordance with the Company’s Act, 2019 (Act 992) and other relevant Regulations of the Company. In furtherance of this, a copy of Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare’s CV is attached for your necessary attention,” the Transport Minister added in the letter.
The Transport Minister also directed the Board Chairman to facilitate the exit of three person from the company who had attained the retirement age of 60. They are; Mr. Emmanuel Akotoa Fianko – Group Executive, Procurement, Col (Rtd) Emmanuel Akohene Mensah – Director, Aviation Security and Mr. Yaw Appiah-Danquah – Director, Airports Planning & Projects.
