The National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has lambasted Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, for his approach to arresting individuals suspected of corruption.
Mr Ahiagbah, in an interview with Citi FM on Thursday, January 11, expressed disapproval of what he termed as the Special Prosecutor's inclination towards populist arrests rather than adopting a pragmatic approach.
He emphasised that the era of such arrests belongs to the past and advised the Special Prosecutor to refine the arrest methodology.
He thus advised him to use a more judicious and sanitised approach when apprehending individuals suspected of involvement in corruption and corruption-related activities.
“We will encourage all the institutions to work. But they must understand that they need to sanitise their approach so they don’t create a public spectacle, the appearance of something that has happened, which perhaps may not be of that magnitude."
"The process of the invitation will generate for the public a very negative public perception of the individuals and the process.”
His criticism comes in the wake of the Special Prosecutor's arrest of Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP).
Mr Nkansah was arrested on charges of distributing money to delegates ahead of the NPP Parliamentary primaries slated for Saturday, January 27.
Subsequently, Mr. Nkansah was taken to the OSP's office to assist in investigations.
