North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says that it is too late for President Akufo-Addo to reshuffle ministers to address the country's economic crisis.
He stated that many Ghanaians are disappointed with the performance of the government's economic team, which he says has led to the worst economic crisis in history.
Speaking on the AM Show, Mr Ablakwa stated that the problems in the system are entrenched and cannot be resolved now since it is too late to reshuffle government officials.
“If you look at the situation we find ourselves in now, this is a president who has not been responsive, who has waited too long and it is so late in the day. I don’t see what in 10 months, this reshuffle will achieve. The harm has been caused already.”
According to the MP, the reshuffle is too late and will not achieve the results that the government hopes for.
“Too little, too late. It would not solve any of the problems that we face. The hardship, the corruption, the massive unemployment, the total desperation that has engulfed this country. This dying moment reshuffle by lame duck president is not going to solve the situation.”
Background
After months of calls from the general public, President Akufo-Addo has made changes to his government.
This comes a month after former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen and Agriculture Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto resigned to focus on their respective political campaigns.
As required by the 1992 Constitution, the President wrote to the Speaker of Parliament, informing him of the new changes in government on Tuesday, February 7.
New persons have been appointed while other ministers have been reshuffled to other ministries.
