Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif says the legacy of hosting the 13th African Games in Ghana, will positively impact Ghana sports.
Ghana has attracted rave reviews after building world-class facilities to host the multi-discipline event in Accra, and after a successful organisation which has attracted international applause, the Minister of Sports is already looking beyond the event.
"The 13th African Games, Accra 2023 has come to an end, but for us in Ghana, it has just started because the legacy of the 13th African Games lives," Mustapha Ussif said at the closing ceremony.
"For Ghana, the legacy goes beyond the Games, as the magnificent, multi-purpose infrastructure we have invested at the University of Ghana and Borteyman, will have immense impact on our sports development," he added.
"Never in our country's history, have we had such world class sports facilities for multi sports disciplines. But thanks to the 13th African Games, Accra 2023, driven by the remarkable vision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the commitment of our Government, Ghana now possesses these facilities."
"This is a game changer. And coupled with the regional multi-purpose sports stadia our government is building across the country, our sports will never be the same again."
The Government built many world-class facilities at the Borteyman Sports Comples, including three multi-purpose domes for indoor games, tennis courts, an aquatic centre with a separate warm-up pool, a football field, among others.
At the University of Ghana, the government also completed the stadium there, which had been abandoned, built a standard mundo athletics tracks and a warm-up track beside the stadium, as well as built the biggest rugby pitch in West Africa.
Aside the construction of modern facilities, the Government also procured equipment for the various sports disciplines, which will be handed over to the various federations to aid local development and competitions.
"This is the legacy, Mr President, and posterity will never forget your administration's significant impact on Ghana Sports and contributions to keeping the flame of the African Games burning."
