Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Special Aide to former President John Mahama, has assured Ghanaians that the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will not abolish the free Senior High School (SHS) program.
She emphasised that the policy, enshrined in the 1992 constitution, is here to stay.
Addressing concerns about the free SHS program, Madam Mogtari stated that Mahama's administration would focus on rectifying implementation issues rather than scrapping the initiative.

She highlighted various challenges, including infrastructure deficiencies, feeding problems, and curriculum gaps, which the former president aims to tackle comprehensively.
She thus urged parents and stakeholders to remain confident in Mr Mahama's commitment to improving the free SHS program.
She stressed the importance of addressing the current shortcomings to ensure that all students have access to quality education without financial barriers.
In her post on X on Tuesday, April 16, Madam Mogtari underscored Mahama's approach to prioritize addressing the challenges facing the free SHS program, aiming to enhance its effectiveness and inclusivity.
She reiterated the NDC's stance on supporting education accessibility while acknowledging the need for comprehensive reforms.
“Tell them that Free Senior High School (FSHS) Education is a creature of the 1992 Constitution and it has come to stay! The problems associated with poor implementation are going to be resolved.”
“From inadequate infrastructure to feeding challenges and gaps in curriculum, the new John Mahama administration shall address the multifaceted issues that hinder the progress of our education system.”
“Parents, students, teachers and other key stakeholders, such as CHASS agree that the system needs a review. Our children’s future is at stake and we can’t let them and ourselves down,” she posted.
