Former Ghana international, Mohammed Polo, believes Otto Addo was forced to take up the Black stars job, claiming the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach is not ready for the job.
The Ghana Football Association re-appointed Otto Addo as head coach of the senior national team in March 2024 following the sacking of Chris Hughton after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Otto Addo was, reportedly, not part of the initially shortlisted coaches for the position, but was a late entry because the GFA preferred him over those who applied.
Speaking to Joy Sports in an interview, Mohammed Polo was critical in his assessment of the GFA’s decision to re-appoint the 48-year-old as Ghana coach.
“Otto was not even ready. He was been forced to take up the job. Those who are ready, give it to them,” Polo said.
“The guy came here and he told you point blank he has a job, and you said, 'Please, come and do the job,' as if we without him, nobody can do the job. What is this?
“He came, fine, and qualified us to the World Cup [in Qatar] with only two matches.”
