The chiefs and people of Adaklu-Ahunda in the Adaklu District of the Volta Region have commissioned a fire post to serve the community and its catchment areas.
The self-help project, spearheaded by the Chief of Adaklu-Ahunda, Togbe Asamoah IV is to ensure the protection of life and property and make available quick response to fire and disaster emergencies.
Togbe Asamoah IV explained that they took cognizance of the Appiatse disaster and advised themselves to undertake the initiative to guard against similar incidents.

“We don't want what happened in Appiatse to happen to us. We are situated on a trunk road where fuel tankers and other hazardous and inflammable products are transported through our township daily; a phenomenon which could easily endanger the lives of our people," he said.
The Regional Fire Officer, Assistant Commissioner Fire Officer 1 Joy Ameyibor Ayim applauded the community’s efforts and commitment and pointed out the importance of fire safety.
"Every year, bushfires destroy or consume 3% of the annual GDP of the nation. This is a significant concern, and the region has recorded 48 bushfires. Initiatives like this fire post are crucial in mitigating such losses," he added.

He urged the newly appointed officers and volunteers to collaborate with the community and appealed to the Adaklu District Assembly, to facilitate the renovation of the fire station at Adaklu Waya.
Retired Prison Officer, Daniel Kwami Dzah Apicky, who is a native of Adaklu-Ahunda and one of the driving forces behind the fire post initiative, stressed the importance of their efforts.
"As a security professional, I understand the critical role of fire posts. Fire may seem like a good house master, but when it turns destructive, it happens within seconds,” he said.
