Actress and the National Democratic Congress' Parliamentary Candidate for the Tema Central Constituency, Ebi Bright, has called for the decentralisation of activities in the tourism, arts and culture value chain.
Ebi said on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z that this is one of the ways of helping develop the culture and creative industries.
“One of the things I find most challenging is, there is a lack of decentralisation when we talk about culture, arts and tourism. The emphasis and all the attention appears to be on Accra city centres. Even when it comes to festivals I think we are obsessed with a couple of them. But Ghana benefit a lot from exploring its diversity. There are a lot of issues that we are failing to communicate properly in terms of our positioning. We are not expressing a solid national brand,” she noted.
Ebi also suggested that tourism activities be spread out throughout the year and also make a deliberate effort to incorporate all the elements of arts and culture in our events.
“Another thing that worries us is the concentration of all our activities and revenue at specific times of the year. Tourism needs to be a lifestyle. It needs to be responsive to the Ghanaian, almost as it needs to be responsive to visitors. If the average Ghanaian cannot enjoy the pleasures that the country has to offer in terms of tourism, then I don’t think that we can advocate properly to get people interested. And I think that the way that we engage the space right now leaves out a space leaves out a lot of its components like the food, the fashion, the Human Resource, the language and so many aspects", Ebi added.
Although, she is currently focusing on politics, hoping to represent her constituents in parliament, Ebi Bright has played a role in the arts.
As a child she used to host a kids show on television. She also acted in movies such as 'Single Six', 'The Game', 'Pool Party', 'Silent Writer', 'Deadline', 'Hotel Babylon', among others.
