One person is reported dead after a gang of armed robbers allegedly attacked a gold dealership shop in the Mankranso community of the Ashanti Region.
Eyewitnesses say at least three of the robbers besieged the shop at about 7pm on Friday, August 23, to rob the gold buying shop.
According to the accounts, people present at the shop attempted to resist the operations of the robbers, leading to a sporadic shooting by the robbers.
Five people are reported to have been hit by the bullets. One of them, identified only as Kwame, is said to have died on the spot after he was shot in his abdomen.
The other four people who suffered injuries to their chest, arm and other parts of the body were rushed to the Mankranso hospital and subsequently referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Two of them have since been treated and discharged.
The robbers bolted with gold, sums of money and other valuables, including those of customers and shop attendants.
The Police in the area are on a manhunt for the robbers.
Mankranso, the district capital of Ahafo Ano South-West district, is known to be one of the artisanal small-scale mining hubs in the region.
