The fire, which started on September 1, 2024, ravaged shops, warehouses, and residential rooms, presenting significant challenges to firefighters due to the nature of the materials involved, including home appliances, plastics, and leather.

In a statement, the GNFS said its firefighters faced additional obstacles, such as locked shops, intense heat, acrid smoke, and collapsing structures. However, they managed to confine the blaze, preventing it from spreading further.

Eight shops, four warehouses, and twelve residential rooms were destroyed, but three adjoining buildings and warehouses were saved by the skilled response of the fire crews.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The affected area has been secured, and building experts are expected to assess the structural damage and advise on further action. Two fire engines remain on standby to handle any potential reignition.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. The GNFS has urged the public to prioritize fire safety to avoid similar incidents in the future. The service also expressed gratitude to the firefighters and supporting agencies for their dedication and support throughout the operation.
