Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Richard Gyan-Mensah, has refuted claims that he, along with party supporters, attacked the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) members during the commissioning ceremony of some earth-moving equipment.
The equipment were part of the recently launched District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
This follows accusations by the District Chief Executive, who also doubles as the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Bismark Nkum, claiming that the MP invaded the ceremony with party supporters and attacked attendees.
Mr. Nkum further accused him of physically abusing some members of the NPP.
But speaking to Adom News on September 16, Mr Gyan-Mensah said he is a peace-loving person and would never resort to violence.
He explained that the DCE made those allegations only to tarnish his reputation.
"They just want to provoke my side. Everyone knows I am a peaceful person but it does not imply that I will sit and watch someone harm me,” he said.
Mr. Gyan-Mensah asked the media to produce videos of the confrontations as they were present during the ceremony.
The legislator also said that the police commander was at the commissioning, so if the allegations were true, the police would have arrested them.
He clarified that he did not visit the premises with any pistol as alleged.
