The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Gomoa West constituency chairman, Mohammed Kassim, has been arrested and detained at the Bakaano police station in Cape Coast.
It is unclear reasons for the chairman’s arrest but family sources suspect it may be in connection with the recent clash that occurred between members of the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the presentation of machinery for the District Road Infrastructure Project (DRIP) on Monday, September 16.
Mr. Kassim is reported to have been picked up from his home by some police personnel and has been in detention since Wednesday night.

Supporters of the NDC and the NPP engaged in a violent confrontation during the presentation of the machinery meant to boost the construction of roads in the district.
The conflict is said to have begun when NDC supporters questioned the decision to display posters of Bismark Basie Nkum, the NPP’s Gomoa West parliamentary candidate on the state equipment.

The confrontation escalated into a physical scuffle where the Gomoa West Member of Parliament, Richard Gyan-Mensah is said to have pulled a gun. The machine operator was also allegedly stabbed with a knife in the ear.
Richard Gyan-Mensah however denied the reports in a press statement.
Members of the NDC massed up at the police station, demanding the release of the chairman.
