The flagbearer of the All People's Congress (APC), Dr Hassan Ayariga has pledged that if he is elected President in the 2024 elections, Ghana will cease borrowing from other countries.
He explained that his government would focus on repaying the country’s existing debt and reclaiming natural and mineral resources currently under foreign control.
Speaking on JoyNews News Desk, Dr Ayariga said, “Once you claim it, it gives the Ghanaian government a good source of revenue."
"We are going to increase revenue and productivity in our country, and when we are able to increase revenue and productivity significantly, we will have enough resources to maintain this country, manage it, and start paying our debts bit by bit.”
Dr Ayariga stated that if President Mahama or Bawumia were to become president, the national debt would not be cancelled.
He said that however, if he, Hassan Ayariga, were elected, he would renegotiate the debt to cancel a portion of what the nation owes.
The APC flagbearer, emphasised that a new president represents a new government and leadership committed to building the country and achieving debt relief.
Dr Ayariga further noted that those who borrow lack economic knowledge and the fundamental skills necessary for running a business.
“My whole life as a businessman, I have never borrowed. My life as a father, I have never borrowed. My life as a young man, I have never borrowed. So, my life as President, I would not borrow. So, I will continue to invest in our productivity, in our production, manufacturing, and industrial hub to be able to create more jobs and more opportunities for our young men so that we get enough revenue and taxes.”
