The Christ the King Catholic Church (CTK), led by the Young Christian Workers Movement (YCWM), organised a health day featuring blood donation drives alongside essential health screenings to promote wellness within the community.

The church has established a strong tradition of hosting blood donation events, working closely with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, the Ridge Hospital, and the 37 Military Hospital.

Last Sunday, the church expanded its initiative to offer crucial health screenings for eye, breast, prostate, and dental health. Medical professionals from the Mamobi Polyclinic, the Ridge Hospital, the Police Hospital, and the National Blood Service were on hand to provide these important services.

Dr. Edward Kofi Boakye, a urologist, stressed the significance of regular prostate examinations, urging the public to take their health seriously adding, “Early detection can save lives” and called on Ghanaians to seek regular check-ups and not ignore concerning symptoms.

The President of YCWM at Christ the King, Ms Lucy Dzata, explained the purpose behind the health day, stating, “We wanted to offer accessible health services to our parish and the broader Ghanaian community while raising awareness about preventive care.”

She underscored the importance of personal responsibility in health management, noting, “In our hectic lives, we often overlook our health. This event serves as a reminder that taking care of us is not just an individual responsibility but a collective one.”

She expressed enthusiasm for ongoing health initiatives aimed at empowering parishioners to prioritise their well-being and that the YCWM planned to develop a comprehensive health awareness program that includes regular workshops and screenings.

She encouraged parishioners to share their experiences and advocate for family and friends to participate in future health events, reinforcing the notion that collective efforts contribute to a healthier community.

The Parish Priest at the Christ the King Church, Rev. Fr. Ebenezer Akesseh, voiced appreciation for the turnout and the partnerships that made the event successful.

“It is uplifting to see our parishioners unite for such a meaningful cause. This reflects our commitment to both spiritual and physical well-being. I urge everyone to take advantage of these health services and make regular check-ups part of their routine,” he said.
