Sudan Head Coach, Kwasi Appiah, has said it is unfortunate that his native Ghana lost 2-0 to his team in the reverse fixture of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie.
The Falcons of Jediane scored two goals in quick succession at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya.
This second-half collapse puts the Black Stars in a precarious position, as their chances of qualifying for the AFCON are no longer in their hands.
Speaking after the game, the former Black Stars coach sympathized with Ghanaian fans but expressed delight at lifting the mood in Sudan, which is currently experiencing civil unrest.
“It’s unfortunate for Ghana. Ghana has a good team but it’s unfortunate that only one of us can go through,” Appiah said, adding, “I’m happy we’ve been able to put a smile on Sudanese faces.”
Ghana sits third in Group F with two points from four games and is on the verge of not qualifying for the AFCON for the first time in 20 years.
The Black Stars will be back in action in November for their final two qualifying matches against Niger and Angola.
