The Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu-Bempa, has warned that any National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament who causes disturbances in Parliament on Tuesday.
Ahead of what watchers predict could be a tense session, the NPP official says opposition legislators who disrupt the sitting will face arrest and prosecution.
He issued this caution in a Facebook post on Monday, October 21.
The warning follows threats by NDC MPs to occupy the Majority side of the chamber during the upcoming session.
This move comes in the wake of Speaker Alban Bagbin's ruling, which declared four parliamentary seats vacant, a decision that has since been stayed by the Supreme Court.
Led by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the NDC MPs argue that they now constitute the new majority caucus in Parliament due to the Speaker’s ruling, despite the Supreme Court's stay of execution.
This claim has escalated tensions between the two sides of the house.
In his post, Owusu-Bempah reiterated that the NPP will not tolerate any misbehavior or attempts by the NDC MPs to disrupt parliamentary proceedings.
He stressed that law enforcement agencies are ready to intervene if necessary, and any MP who crosses the line will face legal consequences.
"Any Minority NDC MP who misbehaves in parliament tomorrow will be arrested to face the laws of Ghana. We are not living in a banana Republic. Try it," he posted.
