The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voiced concerns about the Electoral Commission’s (EC) recent contract with YASARKO for printing election materials.
The complaint follows what the party says are issues it encountered through its “Eagle Eyes” initiative to closely monitor the ballot-printing process in preparation for the upcoming elections.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, took to Facebook to share the reservations regarding YASARKO's selection by the EC.
He questioned the thoroughness of the EC's vetting process, alleging that YASARKO has consistently failed to meet its contractual obligations.
This, he said, has led to numerous frustrations for the NDC’s agents, who have been tasked with observing the process around the clock to ensure transparency.
According to Dr. Boamah, YASARKO has repeatedly provided excuses for delays, which he believes calls into question the company’s reliability and competence to fulfill such a critical role in the election.
The NDC points to its lack of confidence in the company's ability to handle the printing of sensitive electoral materials effectively. The situation, they argue, poses a significant risk to the security and integrity of the electoral materials.
In response to these concerns, the Electoral Commission issued a letter to representatives of all political parties, announcing that YASARKO will no longer be responsible for printing the ballot papers.
"What due diligence did the Electoral Commission conduct before appointing YASARKO to print election materials? I'm proud of our vigilant NDC Agents and Supervisors pursuing the #EAGLEEYES project to ensure the ongoing printing of ballot papers meets the highest standards possible."
"Because of their EAGLEEYES, one of the companies contracted by the Electoral Commission to print ballot materials must lose their contract."
"Since printing commenced, YASARKO printing company has not been printing. Excuses upon excuses."
