The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Agona West constituency, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, who is now contesting the seat as an independent candidate, has denied any involvement in the recent shooting incident in Agona Swedru.
The incident occurred when her supporters clashed with those of the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Chris Arthur, while both camps were campaigning in the area.
Speaking on the JoyNews Election Brief, Cynthia Morrison stated, “I must be very frank with you, I did not hear the gunshot.”
“After the shooting incident, I called all the boys I work with and asked them who had a gun. They said they didn’t have one. We all attended a wedding before the program, so how could we carry a gun when going to an event like this?” she quizzed on Monday, October 28, 2024.
She added that she could not determine whether the incident was an attempted assassination on her life.
Additionally, she noted that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is scheduled to visit the constituency following the incident.

Police in the area have since commenced an investigation into the matter. Four individuals sustained injuries from the gunfire, including the Nasara Coordinator for the constituency, Rasheed Haruna, whose condition is severe.
He is currently receiving medical treatment at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, while the other three victims are at Swedru Government Hospital.
