With just a month until Ghana’s pivotal December 7 elections, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has made an impassioned appeal to Ghanaians to vote with purpose and conviction.

In his article, the Ketu South MP, stated the importance of this election, framing it as a critical moment in Ghana’s history—a chance to steer the country toward renewal and growth under NDC’s leadership.

“This election stands as a pivotal moment in Ghana’s history,” Mr Kwetey declared, adding that it is a time “to reclaim our beloved Ghana.”

He stressed that Ghanaians are facing a stark choice: “This is not merely about choosing between two parties… it is about choosing between two contrasting futures.”

According to Mr Kwetey, one path would continue the “decline and mismanagement” under the current government, while the other promises a “new path toward growth, dignity, and prosperity for all.”

Ghana’s Youth: At the Heart of the Crisis

Mr Kwetey voiced his concerns about the current state of the nation, particularly the plight of the youth, who he said are the “heartbeat of our future.”

He cited persistent unemployment, economic hardship, and shattered dreams as part of the grim reality facing young Ghanaians.

“The youth of Ghana have borne the brunt of this mess,” he lamented. But, he assured, “we cannot, and we will not accept this as our fate.”

He attributed these challenges to what he described as “economic mismanagement, corruption, state plunder, abuse of power, and broken promises” by the ruling government, specifically criticising Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for what he termed a failure in economic leadership.

Why John Mahama? “A Leader You Can Trust”

Kwetey didn’t only criticize the current administration; he also offered an alternative vision under NDC’s former president, John Dramani Mahama.

According to Mr Kwetey, Mahama embodies “integrity, vision, and unwavering commitment to the people,” and has a proven track record that includes “infrastructure development, social inclusion, care for the less privileged, and economic growth.”

“In John Dramani Mahama, we have a leader who stands tall,” he said, noting that Mahama’s legacy speaks for itself.

Describing the former president’s character, Mr Kwetey added, “He is not a man of empty words or fleeting promises; he has shown through action what true leadership entails.”

The NDC is committed to “building a Ghana that works for all,” he emphasised, pledging to create sustainable jobs, revitalise industries, and foster a supportive environment for economic growth.

A Call for Unity and Action

Mr Kwetey’s call to action was directed not only to NDC supporters but also to all Ghanaians. He stressed the need for national unity and focus as the election approaches.

“To all NDC supporters, cadres, comrades, and sympathisers, I urge you to unite more than ever and work tirelessly,” he said.

He also urged voters to rally behind Mahama and NDC candidates by choosing the “Umbrella symbol” on the ballot come December 7.

In his closing words, Mr Kwetey reminded citizens that this election is about Ghana’s soul: “Let us harbour no complacency. Let’s keep our focus on the goal and stay true to the cause, for ours is a noble mission.”

He encouraged every Ghanaian to exercise their civic duty with intention, saying, “This election is not one you can afford to ignore; this is our moment to stand on the side of true patriots, whose sole aim is to reclaim our destiny.”
