On Thursday, November 7, tensions flared when Kofi Asamoah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Asante Akim North, visited Salt FM in Agogo to demand a retraction and apology from the station’s morning show host, Samuel Acheampong.
Asamoah alleged that Acheampong, during a live broadcast of *Anopa Busuo,* falsely claimed he had received financial support and resources from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament to fund his campaign.
Concerned NDC supporters alerted Asamoah to the statements, leading him to call into the show to address the issue. When the call-in attempt was unsuccessful, he decided to confront the matter in person, arriving at Salt FM’s premises accompanied by supporters.
Asamoah was reportedly prevented from entering the studio mid-broadcast, which escalated into a brief confrontation with the station’s staff.
Stephen Appiani, the News Department Head at Salt FM, later confirmed the incident and stated that, while no one was harmed, the station had filed an official complaint with the police.
In response to rumours that he arrived with thugs or weapons, Asamoah denied any aggression on his part and expressed his intent to take legal action against the station for defamation.
He further accused Salt FM’s owner, an independent candidate in the constituency, of using the platform to damage his reputation for political gain.
Asamoah reiterated his demand for a retraction and an apology from the station, affirming his commitment to clear his name of any misinformation that might mislead constituents.
