Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has revealed plans to introduce an innovative “edutourism” initiative aimed at attracting international students and educators to Ghana.
This new programme is designed to combine educational opportunities with cultural experiences, presenting Ghana as a vibrant destination for learning and exploration.
The “edutourism” initiative will enable international students to engage in academic programmes within Ghana, while simultaneously immersing themselves in the nation’s rich history and cultural heritage.
By blending education with cultural tourism, the programme seeks to enhance Ghana’s global appeal as a centre for both learning and cultural exchange.
Speaking on behalf of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, in Accra on Sunday, Dr. Adutwum shared details about how this initiative would create unique opportunities for students worldwide.
He explained that participants would not only gain academic experience but also have the chance to connect with Ghanaian traditions, customs, and historical landmarks.
According to Dr Adutwum, the edutourism programme reflects the government’s commitment to promoting Ghana as a hub for educational excellence and cultural enrichment.
He expressed optimism that the initiative would foster greater international partnerships in education while supporting tourism and showcasing Ghana’s diverse heritage on a global platform.
“We want to position Ghana as a premier destination for educational tourism,” he stated. “This initiative will not only enhance our educational offerings but also promote cultural exchange and economic growth.”
