The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has reiterated his commitment to Ghana's peace and stability.
“I’m more than committed to the peace of this nation,” the Speaker stated when the leadership of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) paid a courtesy call on him at Parliament House in Accra.
A statement issued by the Media Relations Directorate of Parliament and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the purpose of the GNACOPS courtesy call was to promote peace and unity during the 2024 election.
It said the GNACOPS delegation, which included teachers and pupils from selected private schools, was led by Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, the National Executive Director of GNACOPS.
The statement noted that the delegation entreated the Speaker to use his influence during this crucial time in Ghana’s democracy to promote peace before, during, and after the elections.
They praised the Speaker for his exemplary achievements and for demonstrating to the youth that peaceful coexistence is the true hallmark of a democratic society.
Speaker Bagbin assured GNACOPS of free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections.
He added that, as part of the 30th Anniversary of Ghana’s Parliamentary Democracy Celebrations, he organized a seminar in Tamale, where experts were brought in to help everyone appreciate the value of peace in the country.
Speaker Bagbin also mentioned the introduction of the Democracy Cup initiative, which uses the nation’s passion for football as a tool to spread the message of peace.
“The foundation of life is peace,” Speaker Bagbin stated.
He congratulated GNACOPS for adding their voice to the peace initiative and for instilling this message in young learners, who are the future leaders of the nation.
