The Electoral Commission (EC) has firmly dismissed claims that the upcoming December 7 general elections can be rigged.
According to the Commission, the robust systems and structures in place make it impossible for any individual to manipulate the polls.
Speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday, the EC's Deputy Chairperson, Dr Bossman Asare, stated that elections are won at the polling stations.
He explained that ballot counting is conducted transparently at each polling station immediately after voting, in the presence of the public.
“When we had the peace pact, she (EC Chairperson] made it very clear - we’ve always known that elections are won at the polling stations, and that has not changed,” he said.
He reiterated that the results declared at the polling stations form the foundation for determining the winners of both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
“Because the counting is done in the full glare of the public, whatever is counted there formed the basis,” he noted.
Dr Asare encouraged Ghanaians to actively participate in the elections, assuring them that their votes would directly determine the persons who will be declared as winners.
“The constituency coalition center is just a matter of amalgamation. We are putting the figures together.
“But in reality, what takes place at the polling station is the basis of the declarations for the parliamentary and the presidential,” the Deputy EC Chair added.
