President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed confusion over former President John Dramani Mahama's desire to return to the presidency.
He pointed out that all presidents under the Fourth Republic, with the exception of John Mahama, served two terms in office, as allowed by the Constitution.
Mr Mahama, however, is the only president to have been rejected by the public twice after his first term, leaving the president wondering why Mahama seeks to return.
“All leaders under the Fourth Republic have had the opportunity to serve two terms, except for the late J.E.A. Mills, who passed away. John Dramani Mahama is the only president in this period who has been rejected twice after his first term,” President Akufo-Addo remarked.
While speaking at a durbar hosted by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in Kyebi, as part of his 'Thank You Tour' in the Eastern Region, President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to once again reject Mahama’s bid for the presidency.

He stated that Dr. Bawumia is the best candidate to continue the various social intervention projects initiated by his administration.
"On Saturday, I urge you to vote overwhelmingly for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to protect and continue all the developmental projects I have started," the president told his supporters.
The president also remarked that Mr. Mahama has shown a lack of belief in his own policies, such as Free SHS, Agenda 111, the 1D1F project, and other initiatives under his administration.
He warned that these projects would be at risk if Ghanaians vote for John Mahama.
"Mahama has no clear policy. He claims he will 'reset' Ghana – but is ‘reset’ really a policy? He talks about a 24-hour economy, but when asked for details, he says it’s voluntary. You couldn’t keep the lights on for 24 hours, so how can you implement a 24-hour economy?" the president questioned.
He also criticised the use of religious cards in the election, stressing that all Ghanaians, regardless of their religious beliefs, are entitled to the same rights and privileges.

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, emphasised that only a visionary leader, one who considers the future of generations to come, can make the decisions that President Nana Akufo-Addo has made during his tenure.
He described the Free SHS policy as a landmark initiative that will be remembered as one of Ghana’s greatest achievements.
“Today, the impact of Free SHS may not be fully recognised, but in the near future, its value will be evident. No child should be deprived of basic education because of the financial circumstances of their family,” Osagyefuo stated.
He further added that posterity would ultimately be the best judge of these decisions.
