The incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration has cautioned the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government against signing last-minute contracts or making financial commitments that could bind the incoming government of President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
In an interview after the Electoral Commission declared Mr Mahama the winner of the 2024 general elections, Dr Boamah called on financial institutions to exercise caution, urging them not to honour any obligations or transactions initiated by the outgoing government that could place undue pressure on the incoming administration.
“This outcome, with over a 1 million vote gap, is a clear repudiation of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government. We expect them to finalize their handover notes if they haven’t done so already. This is a transition period, not a time for unnecessary expenditures or binding contracts for the Mahama and Prof Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang government,” he indicated.
Mr Boamah also stressed the need to adhere to the principles of a peaceful and transparent transition.
According to him, this period, designated for the finalization of handover notes and the smooth transfer of power, should not be used to incur expenditures or obligations that might constrain the new administration.
Touching on the party's commitment to accountability, the NDC reminded the outgoing government of its obligation to account for its stewardship over the past eight years.
“We all stayed in this country and accounted for our stewardship when the tables turned. We expect the same from the outgoing administration. 'Operation Recover All Loots' will not be a mirage; it will be a reality,” he said.
