The outgoing Majority leader in parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has claimed that a discussion about the next flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has started among some NDC MPs even before the president-elect is sworn in to finish his four-year term.
According to Afenyo-Markin, internal strife has emerged within the party, and some MPs have been discussing the matter among themselves in parliament.
He stated, “Already in Parliament on Monday, we saw a few things. In Parliament, we see things with our own eyes and hear things. Their internal struggle for leadership has started; they have already begun their campaign for who will succeed Mahama.”
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, Afenyo-Markin said he would not disclose the names of the MPs who have started these conversations. “All of this will be factored into what happens in 2028.”
He added that he is confident the public will soon see the true nature of the NDC and may regret giving them power in the just-ended general election.
Mr Mahama won the election with over six million votes in the general election on December 7, but he has only one term left constitutionally.
