Majority Leader in Parliament and MP for Effutu, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has expressed gratitude for the peace and unity prevailing in Ghana, even after a tense election period.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, he commended Ghanaians for their resilience and the stability maintained post-election.
“We thank God for the peace we have in the country,” he said, acknowledging the charged atmosphere that characterized the election period.
Reflecting on the country’s ability to stay united despite political differences, Mr Afenyo-Markin emphasised the unifying force of the Ghanaian spirit.
“Politics will come and go. We may have our differences and ideologies, but what unites us all is the Ghanaian spirit.
"Let’s remember that we are one people, bound by a common purpose and love for our country,” he remarked.
As Christmas approaches, the Majority Leader encouraged citizens to focus on creating a nation where fairness and equal opportunities prevail.
He called on Ghanaians to remain committed to national development, which he believes is the foundation for lasting peace.
“As we celebrate Christmas, let us also remember that building a fair, just, and equitable country should be our focus,” he said.
“When we create a nation with equal opportunities for everyone, there will be no need for disruptions. We must keep our eyes on the prize—national development.”
Mr Afenyo-Markin also reiterated his belief in Ghana’s potential to become a leading African nation.
“We can achieve our goal of becoming the gateway to Africa if we continue to work together,” he said.
Addressing members of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Effutu MP offered words of encouragement despite their loss in the recent election.
“Even though we did not win the election, there is still a bright future ahead for us,” he assured.
“We need to act collectively, remain hopeful, and enjoy this festive season. There is much to look forward to, and the future is still bright for all of us.”
Mr. Afenyo-Markin concluded by emphasising the value of peace as the bedrock of Ghana’s progress. “The peace we have in this country is a blessing,” he said.
“We must continue to nurture this peace and ensure that it remains the foundation upon which we build our future.”
