Three people tragically lost their lives on Friday when a bus travelling from Takoradi to Accra overturned near the Aggrey Memorial School intersection in Cape Coast.
The vehicle, bearing registration number GW 6231-21, was carrying approximately 53 passengers when it tipped onto its side, trapping several occupants inside.
Twenty-three individuals sustained various injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
Additionally, nine passengers who suffered minor injuries were treated and discharged.
According to Abdul Wasiu Hudu, the Central Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the accident occurred at approximately 6:48 am on Friday, 27 December 2024.
Emergency responders, including officers from the GNFS, police personnel, and ambulance services, worked together to rescue the trapped passengers and transport them to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital for medical care.
Despite their efforts, three of the passengers were sadly pronounced dead at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
