The Finance Minister-designate, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has pledged to prioritise revenue mobilisation as a key focus of his tenure, should he be approved for the role.
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, January 13, Dr Forson underscored the importance of strengthening Ghana’s revenue base to address the nation’s fiscal challenges.
“I will dedicate a considerable amount of my time to revenue mobilisation,” Dr Forson stated. “Without adequate revenue, we cannot achieve our development goals or provide the essential services that Ghanaians expect and deserve.”
Dr Forson emphasised that his approach would centre on improving tax compliance and efficiency rather than introducing new taxes.
He expressed his intent to work closely with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to maximise the country’s revenue potential. “I will ensure that we enhance compliance and strengthen our systems to plug leakages,” he added.
The Finance Minister-designate further highlighted the critical role of innovative strategies in achieving sustainable revenue growth.
By adopting measures that foster transparency and accountability, Dr Forson aims to rebuild trust in the tax system and create a stable financial foundation for Ghana’s development agenda.
