In a heartfelt appeal to President John Dramani Mahama, Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Joycelyn Tetteh, has articulated the need for increased representation from the Volta Region in ministerial appointments.
She argued that the region's significant contributions to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections justify its claim as the party's stronghold.
Speaking during a Zoom interview on *PM Express* on Joy News on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Tetteh acknowledged the contributions of all regions to the NDC's electoral success while highlighting the pivotal role of the Volta Region.
“I think we deserve more than three appointments. We have 18 seats and managed to reclaim one from the NPP, with only two women emerging out of the 18,” she noted.
Tetteh emphasised the challenges faced by MPs in the region, especially women, stating, “Considering the political atmosphere, particularly for women, I believe the president wouldn’t overlook the fact that only two out of 18 MPs from the Volta Region are women."
"Despite limited resources, we worked hard to maintain our seats. It wouldn’t be unreasonable for the president to increase appointments from the party’s stronghold, but that decision lies solely with him.”
When asked if she would accept a role in government, Tetteh expressed her willingness to serve.
“Having served my people as an opposition MP for eight years, it would be an honour to serve in government if deemed worthy. If President Mahama feels I deserve a place at the table, I am ready to serve,” she concluded.
