Kankan Bizin, the lead vocalist of Ghana's alternative rock band, Dark Suburb, believes the country's music industry is struggling to reach its full potential.
According to him, industry professionals are underestimating the technical and business capabilities available to them.
In an interview with Joy News' Becky, the lead vocalist stated, "I think the Ghanaian music industry is underestimating the technical capacity of a technical space, the business capacity of a business space. Musicians are now expected to be musical directors, but the experts who can handle and sell their talents are elsewhere. In Ghana, people who are not experts are handling expertise."
This underestimation, he notes, could be due to limited resources, lack of awareness, or inadequate training. As a result, the music industry in Ghana may be missing out on opportunities to innovate, grow, and compete globally.
Dark Suburb is a Ghanaian alternative rock band that formed in 2014. The band consists of a drummer, bassist, pianist, lead guitarist, and lead singer, as well as a chief priest who serves as their official spokesperson. Their music genre is a unique blend of alternative rock and Afro-Rock, reflecting the fusion of sound elements from across Africa.
With their mysterious concept and captivating performances, Dark Suburb has become a sensation in the Ghanaian music scene, performing at various sold-out concerts over the years.
