Swedru All Blacks United FC has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to launch an official investigation following chaotic scenes during their Division One League match against Elmina Sharks at the Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom Sports Complex on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
In a statement, the club expressed shock over their treatment before, during, and after the game, alleging that home fans and officials obstructed their media coverage and later assaulted match officials.
According to Swedru All Blacks, Elmina Sharks initially refused to grant them permission to film the match despite their proof of payment and clearance from the GFA. Even after the match commissioner accepted their documentation, the home team reportedly continued to block their coverage, and their camera crew faced threats from fans.
Tensions escalated in the 12th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to Swedru All Blacks. The club claims Elmina Sharks' owner, Dr Papa Kwasi Nduom, and an official named Aboagye invaded the pitch, instructing their players to abandon the match. The incident sparked a confrontation with the referee, leading to a 27-minute delay.
Following the game, Swedru All Blacks allege that Aboagye led an attack on the referees, who were physically assaulted near the tunnel.
The club noted that although police officers were present, they were overwhelmed by the home supporters. Eventually, law enforcement managed to escort Swedru All Blacks' players, officials, and fans safely out of the venue.
The club has urged the GFA to publicly release the match footage to allow for independent analysis of the controversial penalty decision. They reiterated their commitment to fair play and responsible fan behaviour while emphasizing the need for measures to prevent hooliganism in Ghana football.
Swedru All Blacks concluded their statement by demanding a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure a safer environment for future matches.
